The Paul Revere Bell Manufactured in 1801, Installed in Salem, Massachusetts
The minister of East Church, Reverend William Bentley, purchased this Revere bell in 1801.
In Paul Revere's own hand in his "Wastebook" (1) records he listed this bell, purchased by Dr. Bentley, for the Town of Salem.
The bell weighed 920 pounds and was sold to Reverend Bentley for forty-six U.S. dollars..
The church was demolished in 1846 and the bell resided in the Bentley school from 1861 until It was moved to the square in front of the Essex Peabody Museum in 1970.
As it sits in front of the museum it can not be struck.
